There can be no question that John Ashcroft is highly qualified to be America's top law enforcement officer -- he is the former Missouri state Attorney General, governor and U.S. Senator, and was a lawyer and law professor. He is a man of impeccable integrity and strong moral character. But the nomination has sent ripples of horror through the ACLU, People For the American Way, American's United for the Separation of Church and State, Planned Parenthood, and National Organization for Woman (NOW) -- because they know that the Attorney General determines the government's legal position on religious freedom ... abortion ...pornography. And they know all too well that John Ashcroft, as Attorney General, would impartially pursue justice, and uphold the Constitution and the rule of law in ALL matters -- including Christian liberties.
